What did you do this past week?

This past week I attended class and messed around with using exceptions in Python on my own to get some first hand experience with them.

What’s in your way?

I do not feel like anything is currently me impeding me in this class. I am excited to get started on the group projects and to get started on working on something new!

What will you do next week?

Next week I think we will be assigned our groups and have a chance to meet everyone so I am excited about that. Otherwise, I will continue to attend class and I think I will spend some time after class studying all the notes from the lectures we have had so far, just a little time to review and round up everything.

If you read it, what did you think of the Paper #4: What Happens to Us?

I thought it was a really great paper to have read. The kind of experiences peers in this industry went and go through are always important to keep in mind, be made aware of, and action taken to stop that kind of behaviour when you see it.

What was your experience of Collatz, exceptions, and types? (this question will vary, week to week)

Collatz was a good way to sort of refresh my python knowledge, while also being a fun little project. As for exceptions and types, I am familiar with both but it was good to see how they are implemented in Python and their little differences to how I know them expressed in other programming languages.

What made you happy this week?

This week I finished reading a sci-fi book my friend had recommended to me called Seveneves. It was an amazing hard-science thriller that I just blasted through, I really enjoyed it. A quick synopsis is that one day the people of half the world wake up to see that the moon has broken into seven pieces. Natural consequences arise from this scenario that leads to the peril of humanity as a species. It features really ground explanations of space flight and orbital mechanics and really puts into perspective how tenuous our lives are out in space.

What’s your pick-of-the-week or tip-of-the-week?

My tip of the week when we get to meet our partners for this coming project, make sure to establish a way of communicating and a meeting early on to discuss meeting times and responsibilities. This sort of meta meeting is really helpful to make sure everyone is on the same page from the get go!
