What did you do this past week?

This past week I attended as many classes as I could on campus. I have been really enjoying having that chance back. Other than that I have been searching for jobs and in my free time I have been writing out the story of a game my friends and I are making which has been a nice reprieve from the tech world.

What’s in your way?

If there was something in my way it would be the good ol’ Texas heat, it makes it feel so much worse going anywhere or doing anything. I’m glad there is a lot of indoor space on campus, but I can’t wait until fall hits and things cool down a bit.

What will you do next week?

Next week I will finish Collatz and start looking into some of the resources and tools needed for the future projects.

If you read it, what did you think of Paper #2: Makefile?

After reading the paper I came away from it really appreciating how much you can automate with a good makefile, from pulling to documentation, having a good boilerplate makefile seems like it can really expedite the process of development.

What was your experience of assertions, unit tests, and coverage? (this question will vary, week to week)

These were all very useful tools to learn about in the context of software engineering. They cumulatively allow for a structured way of ensuring your code is doing what you want it to do, while giving you plenty of information to find out how to fix your code when it doesn’t run well.

What made you happy this week?

This week was pretty great actually. I caught up with some friends I had not seen in a while, snagged a job interview, and this labor day weekend my friends had a little get together outside and I had a blast kicking back with them.

What’s your pick-of-the-week or tip-of-the-week?

My tip-of-the-week is to try your best to make some friends in the CS department, networking is really important and this is one of the best times to do it. When it comes to making friends it’s not really about trying to be someone you are not but rather just being open with people. If your open with someone and just get to talking about something, that’s a connection, just get on that level with a few people and it can be such a huge boon to you personally.
